In accordance with the Quran, he emphasized that haram things are limited and that only Allah is entitled to declare something haram. His approach, based on tolerance, flexibility, and sincerity has over time been replaced by stricter legal approaches due to efforts by mazhabs to develop their own usul and achieve consistency with that usul in their judgments. This transformation, which can be seen in many areas of fiqh, has remarkable examples with regard to food. Customs, habits, personal or societal preferences and perceptions have become influential in determining halal and haram, which are of the basics of religion. For this reason, scrutinizing what the Prophet’s approach and attitude was in these situations and going to the roots of debates in fiqh would help us establish a sounder basis for our knowledge of fiqh.
