Some calligraphers have given works of art with animaldepictions besides classical calligraphy works. Among these compositions inwhich writing and drawing are combined are figures of stork, bird, lion, camel, horse, parrot, elephant and butterfly. Some of these animals were givenreligious or legendary values and some of them are the most commonly seen indaily life and most loved animals. Apart from a few exceptions, greatcalligraphers generally did not give works in script-drawing genre. One of thelargest reasons of this is that it is necessary to make concessions on the artof calligraphy when trying to make a drawing. Calligraphic works withdepictions generally emerged from popular concerns. In this study, remarkablecalligraphy works with animal depictions will be examined in terms of thecalligraphy history.
