The main objective is to ensure that the needed materialis transported in the right amount, in the right place, at the right time, inthe right conditions, with minimum cost and safely. In this study, it is aimedto solve the material handling problems in the production department of acompany in the defense industry and to ensure the selection of suitablematerial handling methods. In this context, Pareto analysis has been carriedout in order to determine the material handling problems and the causes ofthese in the production. In order to eliminate these problems that interruptthe production, firstly, the criteria (eight different criteria for materialhandling: vehicle capacity, purchase cost, transportation accuracy, vehiclespeed, applicability to production environment, ease of transportation,maintenance-repair frequency, ergonomics), which are important in the materialhandling and dependent to production environment, have been determined. And theimportance degree of criteria are computed by AHP. Then, four differentalternatives (wheelbarrow, trailer towing trailers, forklift trucks,auto-guided vehicles) suitable for production system are determined to selectthe most appropriate one among these alternatives by comparing VIKOR and MOORAmethods.
