For this reason it is important to form the necessary connectionsbetween the key concepts and related vocabulary. The researchers aimed toexplain the connections between key vocabulary and living beings by using thephenomenology. Constructive properties are different in each individual thusthe descriptions differ accordingly. The research was carried out in secondaryschool 5th grades (n=41; 12 m, 29 f), 6th grades (n=39;19m, 20f) total of 80 middle school students. Two open-ended questions wereasked in order to collect data and the students’ answers were in written format.  The data was analysed as per deductive criteria andthe content analyse was used. According the results, the middle school studentsfirst recall key words as “breathing” and “moving” when they think aboutanimals and plants. The cognitive schemetas and feedbacks of the 5thgrades is very much than 6th grades. When all the answers wereexamined together, it was explored that students have some misconceptions aboutthe living beings and their inter-connections. They have some importantdeficits in classification and differentiation of the living beings.  Suggestions were made as per the outcomes ofthe research in order to support the science teachers and the futureresearches.   CR - Bahar, M.
