It is possible to say that the main theme of Diwan-e Hikmat is love. It is obvious that he was fully a man of love. There are certain signifi ers pointing to this truth: That he observed the balance between affection and love; that he favoured the way of love typifi ed by the wise lover against the way of reason typifi ed by the ascetic servant. Starting right from his own experiences of love, he vividly explained in his wisdoms all states of love and the lover both in this world and the hereafter with all its kinds and aspects.
