N2 - One of the fields that reflects the taste in art, sense of aesthetics and the place of art in the daily life best for Turkish people without any doubt is the traditional weaving. Weaving a gift of Turks for the worlds cultural heritage has been shaped according to raw materials, techniques, patterns and functionality, it has continued to exist in a similar or dissimilar fashion according to the tradition. Women have always played the leading role in continuity of life due to her faithfulness and productivity. It is known that women had an important place in all civilization that lived in Anatolia starting from the ancient times. Women have especially been one of the endless sources of inspiration for art throughout the ages. Although the influence of women and the forms used have differed from one society to another, from one culture to another, it would be right to note that the meaning ascribed to women have not changed, only the image attributed to women changed. All the motifs in weavings are a reflection the cultural accumulation of women. Each of the motifs and compositions used has been assessed as a significant document as an indication of the periods, regions, tribes and alliances. Diversity and richness of the motifs, one of the indispensable main components of Turkish decorative art have provided the advancement of this art through the history. The motifs have been an expression of the traditions and customs, emotions, thoughts and beliefs of societies in the field of culture and art. In this study, the motifs in which the women were the subjects were emphasized within the frame of traditional weaving. In order to acquire the data required to achieve the goal within our methodological approach, field study was conducted, required information was attained using observation and interview techniques. In addition, the literature scanning was made in order to ensure that this study is based on a scientific ground. The illustrations of the motifs featuring women in traditional weaving are given with their short descriptions. Moreover these motifs have been documented with photographs.
