N2  - Soil mechanics discipline is very important for every civil engineering project and for soil mechanics discipiline, laboratory and in-situ tests are vital. A stable and economical design can be achieved by designing the foundations of the structure according to soil tests. This requirement shows the importance of soil tests. Any mistake during soil testing may result in an inappropriate design. In our country, a lot of soil investigation report involves inadequate soil tests. Especially determination of grain size distribution of fine-grained soils regarded as unnecessary. However a number of geotechnical applications require the determination of grain size distribution of fine-grained soils. Especially clay-sized particles (≤ 0.002 mm) are very important from soils behaviour point of view
