It is the product of anaerobic glycolysis. LDH and pyruvate using is the only way for synthesis of lactate. For that reason, the amount of pyruvate in the environment is the most important factor for the formation of lactate. Measurement of the blood lactate levels in cats and dogs is useful in evaluating of hypovolemia, determining of prognosis, diagnosis of the certain diseases and presence of the shock state and tissue perfusion evaluation.
