At the beginning, the simple approach seeming as hunting and protecting himself from predaciousanimals has changed into economical gains and social sharings as a result of domestication. As the time has passed, the meanings given to animal and the definitions made with a human being focused approach have been the determinators of the kind of behavior towards it. In the whole world, the basic sources of the traditional way of thinking towards the ethical situation of animals have generally been religion and philosophy. Determining an opinion for animal and worries for redefining it, when taken into consideration among the whole traditional approaches, two different, trends are noticed in two different directions; a serious dedication for protecting animals’ welfare and respect to animals’ life and together with them the belief that human beings are more important than animals. In the focus of these discussions, there are two approaches defending protection of animals. While animal welfare supporters, say that animals can be used for various aims but their physiological and social needs should be afforded in the best way as an ethical obligation. Animal right supporters say like human beings, animals have rights that cannot be sacrified for others’ benefits and emphasize that these rights should be protected ethically and also legally.
