N2  - According to a Mayan belief, in order to relaxand strengthen the spirit after a certain period of rapid living, it isnecessary to occasionally think about, analyze and evaluate the past. This wasbelieved to be beneficial both for the rest of the soul and for the developmentof the mind. In order to understand and evaluate the maritime sector better andto be able to make strategic decisions for the future, we have to get rid of theeffects of actual happenings in maritime markets and calmly evaluate the eventsfrom a wide perspective. In this study, we will try to address the recenteconomic developments in the industry and find out the implications of thesedevelopments in the global maritime market and shipbuilding industry and theirreflections on Turkey. Moreover, we will examine in particular shipbuilding, container,tanker and bulk markets on a global basis in the light of current data andfinally we will refer to some precautions that can be taken in Turkey.
