If, following a long period of national struggle, Cypriot Turks today are able to live in an independent state artists and naturally works of literature have a large role to play in this. Artists have supported the national struggle with the work they contirbuted in that period have played an important role in the preservation of national identity. The same situation applies to the Turks of Western Trakya.
