N2  - Language and works of literature play a very important role in the preservation of National Identity. If, following a long period of national struggle, Cypriot Turks today are able to live in an independent state artists and naturally works of literature have a large role to play in this. Artists have supported the national struggle with the work they contirbuted in that period have played an important role in the preservation of national identity. The same situation applies to the Turks of Western Trakya. Despite the pressures of the Greeks, the Turks of Western Trakya, with the support of writers and artists have been able to protect and preserve their national identity. In this article we will focus on selected examples of literary works in an attempt to demonstrate their effectiveness in protecting national identity
