N2  - Three sides of Elazığ are surrounded by water resources. It includes Keban and Karakaya Dam Lakes. Thus, it is one of the most important cities having rich freshwater resources. In Elazığ, there has been a fast development in fish rearing. Fish farmers increased their production capacity and parallel total fish production increased in recent year. Aqriculture Ministry supported fisheries to produces fish species in Elazığ. Therefore, total production capacity of 111 fish farms in Elazığ was reached to 22.135 ton/year in January 2011. Fish producer farms in Elazığ rear only trout. The majority of fish farms in Elazığ rear fish in cages. In addition to this three farms rear fish in ponds. 50 ton/year trout is produced in ponds in Elazığ. On the other hand economically harvested fish species are Cyprinus carpio, Capoeta trutta, Barbus rajanorum mystaceus, Barbus xanthopterus, Leuciscus cephalus, Acanthobrama marmid, Chalcalburnus mossulensis, Chondrostoma regium. Freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus) is also harvested in Elazığ
