The mass movements following the uprisings throughout the Middle East and the North Africa further highlighted the need for a coherent and comprehensive migration policy for the EU. Hence, migration is at the top of the EU’s political agenda more than ever. Since 2011 the EU and member states have faced a dilemma between the security of their own citizens and the rights and security of the people who have asked for protection. In this article, the EU’s current migration policy is reviewed from a human security perspective.
