The purpose of this study, obesity-relatedcomorbidities is to analyze the economic burden for2004 and 2015 in Turkey. The most important of themethods used to study the burden of disease is theDisability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) approach.DALY and gross domestic product (GDP) per capitawere used to estimate the economic burden of obesity.Obesity and related DALYs values were taken fromthe "Turkey Burden of Disease Study" published bythe Ministry of Health. The economic burden ofobesity-causing diseases has been estimated accordingto DALY methodology. Economic burden of obesityrelated comorbidities to Turkey in 2004 was estimatedto be 4.692.333.776-$. This amounts to 1.20% ofgross domestic product. In 2015, the economic burdenof obesity-related comorbidities is 17.646.245.880- $and 2.45% of gross domestic product. Given theincrease in obese population, the economic burden ofobesity-related diseases is expected to increase furtherin the coming years. Obesity-related comorbiditiesrepresent a substantial financial burden to the Turkeybudget. Obesity is an important public health problemthat can be treated. In order to use scarce resourcesdevoted to health services more efficiently andeffectively, it is indispensable to considerably reducethe economic burden of obesity in Turkey. CR - 1. Yates, N., Teuner, C.
