AB  - Felsefetarihi boyunca evrenin anlaşılması amacıyla geliştirilen farklı düşünce sistemlerindenrealizm ile idealizmin farklı, çoğu zaman karşıt arka planları günümüzde dahi pekçok tartışmanın kaynağını teşkil etmiştir. Tümel ve aşkın çerçeveden bakışı, bilgininnesnesinin düşünce faaliyetine bağlı olduğunu kabul eden idealizm soyut alandanhareketle somut alanın belirlenmesine olanak verir. Realizm somut alandakalmakla beraber, bu alanın özneden bağımsız bir gerçekliğe sahip olduğunu varsayar.Ancak farklı alt dalları içeren iki düşünce sisteminin evreni açıklamayayönelik farklı yaklaşım metotlarına karşın bunlardan birinin mutlak suretteyanlışlanması, doğası gereği felsefe için olanaksızdır.WilliamJames, saf idealizm ve saf realizmin, varlığın önceden verilmiş parametrelerle açıklanmasınıöncelediği için güncel problemlerin çözümüne katkı sunmada sorunlar içerdiğinisavunur. Onun klasik metafizik yerine, pratik, somut ve deneyimsel temelleriolan bir metafizik yapma biçimini benimsediği açıkça görülür. Çalışmamız,James’in çoğulcu bir evren teorisi oluşturma çabalarında idealizm ve realizmeyönelik eleştirilerini ve pragmatik bir çerçevede önerdiği saf deneyimteorisini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

N2  - By postulating differentand even opposite propositions, realism and idealism, which have been amongthinking systems to understand the universe throughout the history ofphilosophy, have constituted the source of many debates even in today’s world.The idealism, by recognizing universal and transcendental framework as well as thattheobjects of knowledge depend on the activity of mindallows determining thetangible through abstract space. Although staying in tangible space, realism presumesthat this space has a reality –free of subject. Yet, philosophy, by its nature,cannot falsify either two different thought system which has certainmethodological approaches.William James argues that pure idealismand pure realism constitute some problems to contributesolution to contemporary problems since they prioritize explanation of entitywith pre-given parameters. It is clear that he adopts a form of metaphysicsbasing on practical, tangible, and experiential essentials rather thanclassical metaphysics. This study aims to reveal William James’ critics onidealism and realism regarding constructing a pluralistic universe theory andpure experience which has been proposed in a pragmatic framework.
