AB  - Kentsel dönüşüm gerek sanayileşme, gerek küreselleşme sürecisonrasında kent plancılarının ve yerel yönetimlerin gündeminde olan ve üzerindetartışılan bir kavram olmuştur. Geçmiş yıllarda yaşanan kentsel dönüşümtecrübeleri kentleri yeni sorun ve sorularla yüzleştirmiştir. Fiziksel mekânıönceleyen ve yaratılan ekonomik değerden yalnızca belli toplumsal gruplarınfaydalandığı planlama anlayışı, artık eleştirilmekte, kentsel dönüşümsüreçlerinde toplumsal katılımı önceleyen yeni yaklaşımlar geliştirilmeyeçalışılmaktadır. Sürdürülebilir bir kent ve toplum yaratmak gerek yerelyönetimlerin, gerekse kentle ilgilenen tüm disiplinlerin öncelikli meselesihaline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, sürdürülebilir kent ve toplum yaratmak amacıile İngiltere’de faaliyetlerini yürüten Prince’s Foundation for BuildingCommunity’nin yapmış olduğu çalışmalar incelenmiştir. Yöntem olarakderinlemesine mülakat ve rapor incelemesi tercih edilmiştir. Kurumun, farklıprojelerinde yer alan çalışanları ile derinlemesine mülakatlar yapılmış vetamamlanmış projelerin raporları incelenmiştir. Ayrıca çalışmada İngiltere’ninyaşamış olduğu kentsel dönüşüm tecrübesi irdelenmiş, böylece sürdürülebilir kentve toplum anlayışının ortaya çıkmasına neden olan planlama yaklaşımları elealınmıştır. Prince’s Foundation for Building Community’nin sürdürülebilir birkent ve toplum yaratma amacıyla geliştirdiği yöntemlerin İngiltere’nin geçmişteyaşadığı kentsel dönüşüm tecrübelerine kıyasla daha başarılı sonuçlar verdiğitespit edilmiştir.

N2  - Urbantransformation has become a concept that has been discussed widely by urbanplanners and local governments following the processes of industrialization andglobalization. However, the experiences associated with urban transformation inrecent years has confronted cities with new problems and questions. The conceptof planning, which prioritizes the physical spaces and economic values createdfor particular social groups, is now being criticized, and new approaches thatprioritize social participation in urban transformation processes are beingdeveloped. Creating a sustainable city and community has become a matter ofpriority for all disciplines dealing with city and local governments. In this study, the investigationscarried out by the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community, an organisationbased in England dedicated to creating a sustainable city and society, havebeen examined. In depth interviews and report analysis were used as researchmethods. In particular, this studyexplores the experiences of urban transformation in the UK, as well as theplanning approaches that have led to the emergence of a sustainable city andsociety. The methods developed by thePrince’s Foundation for Building Community to create a sustainable city andsociety have been found to be more successful than the UK's past urbantransformation experiences.
