The survey method was used in this study. For the awareness scale development phase of the study, teacher candidates who were in the 4th class in the Science Education Department of Gazi Education Faculty in the 2009-2010 spring semester were selected as a working group. The other working group for the study was conducted with a total of 93 teacher candidates who were in the 3rd class in the Science Education Department of Gazi Education Faculty in the same year. Data were analyzed with the SPSS 15 package program. A 44-item Environmental Problems Awareness Scale with proven validity and reliability was developed as a result of the study. Then the prepared scale was applied to the science teacher candidates.
