Three-host life-cycle of H. excavatum was found to be completed in 155 days under laboratory conditions. It was determined that a single unfed adult female H. excavatum suck 0,81 (0,58-1,11) gr blood during the feeding and layed an avarage of 8.786 (5.917-12.372) eggs. For the colonization of H. excavatum, gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) were found to be reasonably suitable host for generating engorded larvae and unfed nymph. As well as calf and rabbit were observed to be suitable hosts for the generation of adult unfed ticks and larvae from these adult ticks, respectively}, number={2}, publisher={Ankara University}
