Examination on the use of emoticon technique as a communication tool for narrative skills The aim of this study is toexamine how critically and creatively the students express their feelings andthoughts by using emoticons. In the first part, how the students expressed whatthey read by using emoticons was examined. In order to assess their skills forreading comprehension and the skills for expressing what they understoodthrough emoticons, an achievement test was applied. The second part wasreserved for the case study. The case analysis processes (items) were designedbased on the case. In the end of the pilot application, both the achievementtest and the case analysis processes (items) of the case were reviewed andcompleted. In actual application the findings suggested that the students wereable to comprehend what they read and express their emotions and ideas in acertain context in a critical and creative way by using emoticons. Based onthis finding, it has been suggested that emoticons used in many parts of theworld should take place consciously in education.
