AB  - Çevirilerin toplumsal sistemlerindönüşümüne etkisi, tarih boyunca kesintisiz süren bir olgudur. Luhmann’ınsosyal sistem kuramından yola çıkarak, çevirinin toplumsal sistemlerdekirolünün, toplumsal sistemlerin hem kendi içinde ve hem de diğer sistemlerleiletişimlerinde merkez role sahip olduğu söylenebilir. Luhmann’a göre Toplumsalsistemlerin merkez kavramı olan iletişim, sistemlerin kendilerini düzenlemelerive yenilemeleri için ana etkendir. Bu iletişimin tüm toplumsal sistemler içinçeviri aracılığıyla gerçekleştiği söylenebilir. Çevirinin, toplumlarındönüşümlerinde ve özellikle medeniyetlerin gelişmesinde oynadığ rol yadsınamaz.Medeniyetlerin dönüşümlerine uzunyıllar süren çeviri faaliyetlerinin yol açtığı da tarihi bir gerçekliktir. Birtoplumsal sistem çeviriyle ne kadar yoğun bir uğraş içinde olmuşsa, medeniyettarihinde o derece öne çıkmıştır. Bir toplumun çeviriyle ilişkisi, toplumsalgelecek için önemli bir yol haritasıdır. Çevirinin toplumsal sistemleridönüştürmesi, bir kültürün başka bir kültüre dönüşmesi anlamına gelmeyip,ilgili toplumun kendini yenilemesi ve kendi sistemini yeniden üretmesineyardımcı olması anlamındadır. Toplumsal sistemlerde değişen, kültürler değil,medeniyetlerdir. Çevrinin rolü, toplumsal sistemlerin devamlı dışsal etkilerlebaşka bir sisteme dönüşmesi değil, aksine bir toplumsal sistemindevingenliğidir. Hilmi Ziya Ülken’in ayn başlığı taşıyan eserinin başlığınayansıdığı şekliyle “medeniyetlerin gelişmesinde çevirinin rolü” tartışmagötürmezdir.

N2  - The impact of translation on the transformation of social systems hasbeen an ongoing phenomenon throughout history. Setting off from Luhmann’ssocial system theory, it can be suggested that translation plays a central rolein the communication of social systems both within themselves and with othersystems. According to Luhmann, communication, which is a central concept ofSocial systems, is the main factor that enables systems to arrange and renewthemselves. It can be said that this communication takes place throughtranslation for all social systems. The role played by translation in thetransformation of societies, especially in the development of civilizations,cannot be denied. It is also a fact that translation activities taking manyyears have given rise to the transformation of civilizations. The more a socialsystem has been occupied in translation, the greater the role it has played inthe history of civilizations. A society’s relationship with translationconstitutes an important roadmap for the social future. Translation’stransformation of a social system does not mean the transmutation of a cultureinto another, but refers to the hand it lends to society in renewing itself andreproducing its own system. It isnot cultures, but civilizations that change in social systems. The role playedby translation is not transforming social systems into another system throughcontinuous external influences, but the dynamism of a social system. Asreflected on the title of Hilmi Ziya Ülken’s work, “the role played bytranslation in the development of civilizations” is beyond doubt.
