AB  - Using survey data of Northern Cyprus provided by two recent waves ofEurobarometer, we analyze whether a list of socio-demographic and economiccharacteristics and personal and political opinions make it more likely that aperson considers the Cyprus problem as one of the most important issues ata personal or community level. While socio-demographic characteristics suchas gender, age, or the education level are not determinant factors, peoplewho are more involved in political discussions and who trust political partiesare more likely to consider the Cyprus problem as an important issue. Theregion of residence matters as well. People residing in the Morphou region aresignificantly more likely to find the Cyprus problem as a key issue. Many of theseresidents had to migrate from the South of the island after the 1974 events orare descendants of migrants. Their concern about the Cyprus problem mostlikely stems from the uncertainty they face as a possible federal agreementcould imply that they would have to relocate.

Bu bölgede ikamet edenlerin birçoğu1974 olaylarından sonra göç eden kişiler veya çocuklarıdır. Bu kişilerin Kıbrıssorunu hakkındaki endişeleri, yüksek ihtimalle, olası federal bir çözümün bukişilerin yer değiştirmelerine yol açabilme olasılığının yarattığı belirsizliktenkaynaklanmaktadır.
