AB  - M.Ö 7. - 6. yüzyıllarda kolonizasyon dönemiyle birlikte gelişen sanayi ve ticaret ve buna bağlı olarak iş gücüne olan ihtiyaç, dış ülkelerden köle ithalini zorunlu kılmıştır. Çıkarttığı kanunlarla Atinalı vatandaşları köle olmaktan kurtaran Solon döneminde (M.Ö 638-559) iş gücüne olan ihtiyaç, yabancı köle alım sürecini hızlandırmıştır. Köle olmaktan kurtulan ve özgürlüklerine kavuşan Atinalı vatandaşlara siyasal haklar tanınmış, bu da demokrasi fikrinin gelişmesine yardımcı olmuştur. Dolayısıyla bu dönemde Atina\'da demokrasi, özgürlük ve kölelik süreci bir arada gelişen kavramlardı. İşlerin köleler tarafından yapılması, Atinalı vatandaşlara kendilerine vakit ayırmalarını ve böylece siyasal ve sosyal hayata katılmalarını sağlamıştır. During Solon\'s period (638-559 BC) in which Athenian citizens were freed from enslavement by his laws, the process of having foreign slave hastened as a result of the need for workman. From then, the freed Athenian citizens were granted with political rights. As a result of this situation, the idea of democracy developed. Thus, the process of democracy, freedom and slavery were the interrelated concepts that went hand in hand in this period. All the works being performed by the slaves, spare time was provided to the Athenian citizens to attend a social and political life. It was understood that by emphasizing the priority of the Athenian identity, the balance among the Athenian citizens in the society was intended to keep.
