AB  - İncil’de Gebal olarak bilinen, Finikeliler döneminde Gubla diye tanınan Byblos antik kenti Lübnan'da Akdeniz kıyısında kurulmuş olan bir limandır. Bu eski yerleşim merkezinde Neolitik çağlardan itibaren kesintisiz biçimde çeşitli uygarlıkların birbirini izlediğini görüyoruz (Cauvin 1968). Kent, Romalılar dönemine kadar kutsal şehir olarak ününü korumuştur. Bizans dönemiyle beraber giderek önemini kaybetmiştir. Kalkolitik çağla yaşıt Byblos nekropolü küp-mezar adetinin en güzel örneklerini vermiştir (Dunand 1939).
