It converts different classes of alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds. Primary and secondary benzylic alcohols are oxidized in moderate to high yields. Synthetic utility of the reagent has been shown to increase in the presence of glacial acetic acid for the oxidation of alcohols.
