Abstract
A new data dissemination technique is introduced for mobile sensor networks where the power and resource management as well as routing tasks are carried out by using a virtual cell layout that covers the sensor field. Two types of nodes, namely rnodes and snodes are deployed randomly. The snodes carry out the sensing tasks, and the rnodes are responsible for conveying the sensed data to the sinks. The data structures, the message formats and the algorithms used by snodes and rnodes to disseminate the sensed data are presented in this paper. The equations for the optimum virtual cell size and the number of rnodes minimizing the power consumption are also developed. Experimental results show that our new routing protocol convey the sensed data by using several orders of magnitude less power than the flooding and directed diffusion techniques.
