The Strategies of Crisis Management Under Normal Conditions

Abstract

Crisis management continues to be a growth area in public administration and seems that it will keep its importance in the next century because the classic management strategies are not sufficient to stay in business market while facing global crises. In this study, the terms of crisis and crisis management will be described with the types and characteristics of crises. In the latter part of this study, the strategies of crisis management will be examined under nine categories: improving communication, downsizing and firing over-employer employees, hiring creative people, focusing on the knowledge of management and leadership, following a different profit getting policies, total quality management, being sensitive to global events, emphasizing on importance of organizational culture for innovation, and delegating all authorities and responsibilities. All crises have unique characteristics. There is no standard application that would be applied to all crises. Crisis management is a diverse and complex process. The organizations deliver to stakeholders after a crisis hits, the crisis response strategies are a vital part of this process.
