Aim: This study is made for determining the physical violence to the mothers of primary education students by their fathers.
Material and Method: We took one class from both fifth and eight classes of 63 primary education schools in Elazığ center. A questionnaire applied to 3725 chosen students and asked whether their father apply physical violence to their mothers or not. Results: 53.2% of students were male 46.8% of them were female. Median brother/sister number was 3.9, person number living in the family was 5.7. 76.2% of them said that their father never beat their mother, 23.3% of them said that their father beat their mother at least once. The beat rate of unemployed fathers was 33.6% and it was higher than employed fathers (22.0%). The beat rate was higher in drinking men. Exposuring to physical violence in mothers decreases by increasing the education level of parents. 21.5% of mothers who exposured physical violence were injured because of this reason. Conclusion: According to students explanation it is seen that 23.3% of mothers exposured physical violence at least once. For preventing the violence applying to the woman, education programmes must be organized, counseling service must be given, shelter home must be opened, teams for intervention strategy must be made by multidisiplinary approach |
