Aim: To evaluate variable characteristics of the cases and lesions by diagnostic methods which were applied in the cases whom FOB were applied and who had suspected lung Ca.
Material and Method: 94 cases whom FOB applied in our clinic were evaluated retrospectively between 1998-2001. Results: Of 94 cases, 34 cases (36.17%) presented with direct, 56 (59.58%) cases with indirect findings, whereas 4 cases (4.25%) had neither direct nor indirect tm findings. Sixty-six of the 94 cases (70.21%) provided evidence of lung Ca. Forceps biopsy had more diagnostic value in cases with direct tm findings, in cases with indirect tm findings bronchial lavage had more diagnostic value respectively (95.65%, 65.90%).80.31% of 66 cases had central localization, 19.69% of them had peripheral localization, and in both of them the most observed Ca was epidermoid Ca (52.84%, 61.56%). Conclusion: The value of forceps biopsy and bronchioler lavage was respectively more diagnostic, in the cases with direct tm findings and in those with indirect tm findings, as compared to other methods. Central localization was more observed in lung Ca and both central and peripheral localization epidermoid Ca was the most observed type. |
