Himenoplasti, basit bir tıbbi müdahale olmanın ötesinde, neoliberal politikaların kadınlar üzerindeki bir denetim aracıdır. Bekaretin namus ile özdeşleştirilmesi; aslında sanılan anlamı taşımayan bir dokunun toplumsal önem kazanmasına ve toplum tarafından denetlenebilir kılınmasına yol açmıştır. Bu da kadınlar üzerinde fiziki, psikolojik ve sosyal baskıların kurulmasına neden olmuştur. Neoliberalizm ile kadınların bedenleri üzerindeki denetim artmıştır. Böylece kadınlar, namus gerekçesiyle ve ataerkil normların itelemesiyle, toplumdan dışlanmamak için kendilerini himenoplasti işlemini yaptırmak zorunda hissetmeye başlamıştır. Pek çok alan gibi sağlık sektörünün de ticarileşmesiyle neoliberalizmin birer metaya dönüştürdüğü kadınların talep ettiği himenoplasti operasyonları da bu sistemin bir parçası haline gelmiştir. Genellikle özel kliniklerde gerçekleştirilmekte olan bu işlemler; tıbbın temel ilkeleri ile çelişirken sosyoekonomik eşitsizlikleri de derinleştirmekte, hekimlerin tedavi etme ödevini sorgulatmaktadır. Araştırma bulguları, himenoplastinin bir tercih gibi sunulmasına karşın aslında toplumsal ve kültürel baskılar sonucu talep edildiğini göstermektedir. Bu nedenle himenoplasti operasyonlarının hukuki ve etik boyutunun sorgulanması gerekmektedir.
Hymenoplasty, beyond being a simple medical intervention, serves as a tool of control over women under neoliberal policies. The association of virginity with honor has led to a biologically insignificant tissue gaining undue social importance and becoming subject to societal control. This has resulted in physical, psychological, and social pressures being imposed on women. Under neoliberalism, control over women’s bodies has intensified. Consequently, driven by notions of honor and patriarchal norms, women increasingly feel compelled to undergo hymenoplasty in order to avoid social exclusion. As in many other fields, the commercialization of the healthcare sector has turned women—commodified by neoliberalism—into consumers of hymenoplasty procedures, making this practice a part of the broader neoliberal system. Typically performed in private clinics, these procedures not only conflict with the fundamental principles of medicine but also exacerbate socioeconomic inequalities and raise ethical concerns about the physician's duty to heal. Research findings indicate that, although hymenoplasty is often presented as a matter of personal choice, it is in fact frequently demanded as a result of social and cultural pressures. Therefore, it is essential to examine the legal and ethical dimensions of hymenoplasty procedures.
