                            <p>Vocabulary, which is defined as the entire collection ofwords a person, a community, or a language has, is also referred to as lexicon.When vocabulary that individuals possess is discussed, the personaldictionaries they have in their minds are referred to. Briefly stated, the termvocabulary is the mental dictionary of the human brain. Mind, which is themechanism that is responsible for human behavior, enables the complex processesat work in our brain for the language skills of reading, listening, speaking,and writing skills to function in a harmonious manner. Vocabulary is classifiedinto two groups in terms of language skills related to comprehension andproduction as receptive vocabulary and productive vocabulary. Receptive vocabularyrefers to the part of the lexicon used by individuals in the comprehension processas they are engaged in reading and listening while productive vocabulary refersto the part individuals make use of inthe production process in speaking and writing activities. This qualitativestudy which is based on document analysis aims to dwell on the mental dimensionof vocabulary and to describe therelationship of the vocabulary to memory within that context.</p></trans-abstract>

Kısaca kelime hazinesi teriminden kasıt insanın beynindebulunan zihinsel sözlüktür. İnsanın davranışlarını doğuran bir mekanizma olanzihin dil becerileri olan okuma dinleme konuşma ve yazma becerilerininbeynimizdeki karmaşık süreçlerinin de uyumlu bir şekilde işlemesinisağlamaktadır. Kelime hazinesi de anlama ve anlatmaya bağlı dil becerilerinebağlı olarak iki grupta ele alınmaktadır; alıcı kelime hazinesi ve üreticikelime hazinesi. Alıcı kelime hazinesi, okuma ve dinleme sürecinde bireyinanlamasına yarayan kelime hazinesini, üretici kelime hazinesi ise bireyinkonuşma ve yazma gibi anlatma faaliyetlerinde kullandıkları kelime hazinesiniifade etmektedir. Doküman taramasına dayanan bu nitel çalışmanın amacı kelimehazinesinin zihinsel boyutunun ele almak ve bu bağlamda kelime hazinesininbellekle olan ilişkisini betimlemektir.</p></abstract>
