Söz varlığı in Turkish is met by “vocabulary” inEnglish. In addition, concepts such as “söz varlığı, söz dağarcığı, kelimedağarcığı and kelime hazinesi” meet the same meaning in Turkish. Vocabulary isa top concept that includes words, idioms, proverbs, reduplications, terms,phrases and so on. “Oral Expression” course is taught in universities in thefirst semester. The aim of this course is to improve the oral expression, thatis, speaking skill of preservice teachers teachers. One of the determiningfeatures of an effective and successful speech is that it has a richvocabulary. This skill is critical for preservice teachers. For this purpose inthis study, it was on the vocabulary that has the greatest impact on thespeaking skills of the first-year students of Hacettepe University. It was aimedto determine the generative vocabulary of the students who are at the firstgrade of university. For this purpose, the students at Faculty of EducationDepartment of Primary Education, Preschool Education, and Mathematics TeachingDepartment at Hacettepe University were asked to explain their memories andthree (3) minute audio recordings were taken from each student. In the nextstep, the audio files were analyzed and then taken down to Word file. SimpleConcordance program was used in the analysis. Then the texts are indexed withthe Concordance program. In the study, the findings related to the vocabularywere obtained through the creation of a text pool from the verbal expressionsof students and the analysis of the total and different word values of the textpool. The number of different words per student was obtained by dividing thenumber of different words used by the number of students. This was not validfor each student, but such a method was applied in order to determine theaverage value.
Türkçedekisöz varlığı, İngilizcede vocabulary kelimesi ile karşılanmaktadır. Bununlabirlikte söz varlığı, söz dağarcığı, kelime dağarcığı, kelime hazinesi gibikavramlar Türkçede aynı anlamı karşılamaktadır. Söz varlığı, kelimeleri,deyimleri, atasözlerini, ikilemeleri, terimleri, kalıp sözleri ve benzerlerinikapsayan üst bir kavramdır. Üniversitelerde “Sözlü Anlatım” dersi birinciyarıyılda okutulmaktadır. Bu dersin amacı öğretmen adaylarının sözlü anlatım,yani konuşma becerilerini geliştirmektir. Etkili ve başarılı bir konuşmanınbelirleyici özelliklerinden biri de zengin bir söz varlığına sahip olmasıdır.Öğretmen adayları açısından bu beceri kritik önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada,bu gerekçeyle Hacettepe Üniversitesi birinci sınıf düzeyinde öğrenim görenöğrencilerin konuşma becerilerinin üzerinde en büyük etkiye sahip olan sözvarlığı üzerine çalışılmıştır. Üniversite 1. sınıf düzeyinde öğrenim görenöğrencilerin üretici söz varlığının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçlaHacettepe Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Okul Öncesi Öğretmenliğive Matematik Öğretmenliği Ana Bilim Dalı öğrencilerinden anılarını anlatmalarıistenmiş ve her öğrenciden üçer dakikalık ses kayıtları alınmıştır. Sonrakiaşamada ses kayıtları çözümlenerek Word dosyasına dönüştürülmüştür. ÇözümlemedeSimple Concordance programı kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra metinler dizinlenmiştir.Araştırmada bulgular, kelime hazinesine ilişkin bulgular, öğrencilerin sözlüanlatımlarından bir metin havuzu oluşturulması ile toplam ve farklı kelimedeğerleri metin havuzunun çözümlenmesi yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Öğrenci başınadüşen farklı kelime sayısı, kullanılan farklı kelime sayısının öğrenci sayısınabölünmesi yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Her öğrenci için geçerli olmamakla birlikteortalama bir değer belirleyebilmek için böyle bir yola gidilmiştir.
