<p>This study aimed to investigate the vocabularylearning strategies of preparatory program Turkish EFL students when theylearned new words in English. To that end, 85 Turkish EFL students in Englishpreparatory education at a state university located in the western part ofTurkey participated in the study. The ‘Vocabulary Learning Strategies Scale’(VLSS), developed by Kocaman &amp;amp; Cumaoglu (2014), was utilized to collect thedata for this study. The results of the study showed that the participants usedvocabulary learning strategies (VLS) at a medium level. The results of thestudy also displayed that while affective strategies were the most frequentlyused vocabulary learning strategies by preparatory program Turkish EFLstudents, social strategies were the least frequently utilized vocabularylearning strategies by them. Finally, the results displayed a statisticallysignificant relationship between individual variables such as gender, Englishproficiency level, success and students’ use of vocabulary learning strategies.</p></trans-abstract>
