Travmatik nedenlerle başvuran olgular çalışma dışı bırakıldı. Hastaların demografik özellikleri, başvuru nedenleri, klinik sonuçları, yatış durumları ve adli bildirim süreçleri hastane bilgi sistemi kayıtlarından elde edildi. Veriler tanımlayıcı istatistikler ile analiz edildi.Bulgular:Çalışmaya toplam 127 hasta dâhil edildi; olguların %49,2’si erkek, %50,8’i kızdı.

<p>Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the sociodemographic, clinical, and forensic medical characteristics of pediatric forensic cases presenting to the pediatric emergency department of a tertiary university hospital in XXX province following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, and to analyze differences in admission patterns during the early and late post-disaster periods.Materials and Methods:This retrospective descriptive study included patients under 18 years of age who presented to the pediatric emergency department between February 6, 2023 and December 31, 2023 and were reported as forensic cases. Patients presenting with traumatic causes were excluded. Demographic data, reasons for admission, clinical outcomes, hospitalization status, and forensic reporting processes were obtained from hospital information system records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. Results:A total of 127 patients were included; 49.2% were male and 50.8% were female. The mean age was 8.3±5.9 years, with a median age of 6.5 years. The most common reasons for forensic admission were drug intoxication (17.7%), scorpion stings (14.6%), corrosive substance ingestion (10.8%), and inhalation poisoning (10.0%). Drug intoxications were predominantly observed in early childhood, whereas suicide attempts, substance use, and pregnancy cases were mainly concentrated in the adolescent age group. While 72.3% of patients were discharged from the emergency department, 26.2% required hospitalization, and the mortality rate was 1.5%. Inhalation poisonings were more frequent in the early post-earthquake period, whereas scorpion stings and adolescent-related forensic conditions increased in the late period. Conclusion:The profile of pediatric forensic cases presenting to the emergency department after the earthquake varied according to age, with young children and adolescents representing particularly vulnerable groups. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating child-specific forensic risks into disaster planning and strengthening multidisciplinary approaches in pediatric emergency care.</p></trans-abstract>
