<p>This study comprehensively examines how the Hūṇa (Akhun) conquests acquired religious, cultural, and mythological significance within the framework of Hindu cosmology. The research focuses on the conceptualization of the historical devastations caused by the Hūṇa invasions as adharma (cosmic disorder) in the collective religious consciousness of Indian society and on the subsequent restoration of dharma (cosmic order) through divine intervention, ritual continuity, and royal patronage. Based primarily on Purāṇic and epic sources, including the Mahābhārata, Viṣṇu Purāṇa, and Bhāgavata Purāṇa, the study argues that the Hūṇa conquests during the reigns of Toramāṇa and Mihirakula (5th–6th centuries CE) were depicted in Purāṇic discourse not merely as political catastrophes but also as symbolic manifestations of the moral decay and cosmic disruption characteristic of the Kali Yuga. The positioning of the Hūṇas within the mleccha category, when considered alongside the narratives of cosmic renewal and ritual practices developed after the invasions, demonstrates that historical events were reinterpreted not through linear chronology but within a cyclical cosmological logic. The post-conquest rebuilding of temples, the continuation of ritual practices, and the consolidation of royal authority functioned centrally in the restoration of dharma and the metaphysical order. This study presents the Hūṇa conquests as a paradigmatic case of how political and social trauma was reconfigured within Hindu cosmological, moral, and theological thought, offering a holistic analysis of the complex interplay between history, mythology, religious thought, and political power from a History of Religions perspective.</p></trans-abstract>
