CEREBRAL SINUS VENOUS THROMBOSIS

Year 2016, Volume: 49 Issue: 2, 128 - 133, 01.08.2016

Abstract

Cerebral venous thrombosis CVT is a rare form of cerebrovascular disease. It can present with a wide variety of symptoms and signs. Clinical manifestations can include headache, papilledema, visual loss, focal or generalized seizures, focal neurologic deficits, confusion and coma. Cerebral venous thrombosis represents about 0.5% to 1% of all strokes. All age groups can be affected. It often affects young-to-middle-aged patients, and more commonly women between the ages of 20 – 35. Predisposing risk factors cannot be identified in up to 15% of patients. This condition is thought to be associated with pregnancy, puerperium and oral contraseptive use. Early recognition of the disease and determining appropriate treatment reduces mortality and morbidity
