GERİATRİDE RADYOTERAPİ

Year 2016, Volume: 49 Issue: 2, 122 - 127, 01.08.2016

Abstract

GERIATRIC RADIOTHERAPY

Year 2016, Volume: 49 Issue: 2, 122 - 127, 01.08.2016

Abstract

Human life is increased, so it is expected to increase in the number of geriatric patients. Radiotherapy RT applications in the past in geriatric patients has been encouraging. Effects of radiotherapy and the tumor micro-environment can be better understood. Recently, technological and therapeutic efficacy in the Radiation Oncology field of 3D-CRT, IMRT, SBRT, Tomotherapy, Proton RT, Brachytherapy and Hypofractionated RT reduce the side effects of radiation and its duration and increased tumor efficacy. RT effect is required to update for geriatric in a positive way. In this review, biological and toxic effects of radiation in geriatric patients and the results of treatment which has been given in the past, emphasize to the issues of the impact of new technological developments and should be updated with current RT options
