Abstract

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and human-induced disasters result in loss of life and have numerous adverse effects on societies worldwide. Türkiye is one of the countries that have painful experiences in disasters. The Kahramanmaraş Pazarcık and Elbistan Earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, referred to as the disaster of the century, once again highlighted the importance of disaster management processes. Health facilities are organizations that provide intensive services in disasters. Along with emergency response and medical care, health facilities provide various psychosocial services to disaster-affected people. Social workers are an important part of psychosocial response teams in healthcare facilities. Social workers in meeting basic needs such as shelter, protection, social care and psychosocial support and in different case management processes; they are professionals who can establish initial contact with individuals and families affected by the earthquake, meet their basic needs such as shelter, protection, social care, and psychosocial support, and connect them with community resources through professional interventions in the hospital setting. In this context, the aim of the study is to focus on the psychosocial needs of individuals and disadvantaged groups affected by the disaster in health institutions after the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes and to discuss the social work interventions that can be carried out in the light of the literature. As a result, hospital-based psychosocial and economic supports in disaster and risk management will contribute to meeting the early needs of individuals.

Hastane Afet Yönetim Sürecinde Tıbbi Sosyal Hizmet Uygulamaları: Kahramanmaraş Depremleri Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme
