Abstract

Edebiyat, toplumsal olayları yansıtması bakımından her zaman önemli bir sosyolojik araç olmuştur. Edebiyat ile toplumu doğrudan doğruya gözlemlemekten ziyade, bunu kavrayıp bizlere ileten edebiyatçılar sayesinde şaşırtıcı kıymetli fikirler edinebiliriz. Türk toplumunun geçirdiği tarihsel değişim ve tarihsel gelişimi incelediğimizde edebiyatın önemini daha iyi kavramış oluruz. Prof. Dr. Kemal Karpat'ın "Edebiyat ve Toplum’’ isimli ve kitapta da edebiyatın toplum üzerindeki etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamakta ve aynı zamanda edebiyatla ilgili olarak sıra dışı bilgiler vererek yaptığı tahliller ile karşılaştırmalı edebiyattan da yararlanmıştır. Çalışmanın konusunu oluşturan bu kitapta, yegâne bir başlık olarak açılan Türk romanının nasıl olması gerektiği hakkında kıymetli önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Başka eserlerden farklı olarak hacimli bir ön söze sahip olan bu kitap, altı farklı makalenin bir araya gelmesinden oluşmakta ve birçok farklı perspektiften sosyolojik bir okuma yapmamıza olanak sağlamaktadır. Kemal Karpat bu kitabında, Çağdaş Türk Edebiyatında Sosyal Konular isimli kitabını ihtiva etmekle kalmayıp kendisinin yıllar içerisinde edebiyata dair kaleme aldıklarını da başarılı bir biçimde ele almaktadır.

Literature and Society from the Perspective of a Sociologist

Abstract

Literature has always been an important sociological tool in terms of reflecting social events. Rather than directly observing literature and society, we can gain surprising and valuable ideas thanks to the literary figures who grasp this and convey it to us. When we examine the historical change and historical development of Turkish society, we can better understand the importance of literature. Prof. Dr. Kemal Karpat's book titled "Literature and Society" aims to examine the effects of literature on society, and at the same time, he has benefited from comparative literature with his analyzes by giving extraordinary information about literature. In this book, which is the subject of the study, the only title is Turkish. Valuable suggestions have been made about how the novel should be. Unlike other works, this book, which has a voluminous preface, consists of six different articles and allows us to make a sociological reading from many different perspectives. Kemal Karpat, in this book, Social Issues in Contemporary Turkish Literature. Not only does it contain his book titled "The Book", but it also successfully discusses what he has written about literature over the years.
