: The first independent opposition party in the history of the Republic, the Progressive Republican Party, has taken its place in history as an indicator of the failure of a well-intentioned formation. The reason why the establishment of the party is important for the history of Turkey is that the founders of the party were Kazım Karabekir, Rauf Orbay, Ali Fuat Cebesoy, who had been comrades-in-arms and close friends with Mustafa Kemal Pasha during the National Struggle. The views of the Progressive Republican Party did not coincide with the People's Party on the method of realization of the reforms, the implementation of secularism and the economy. The Progressive Republican Party, which moved away from the statist policies implemented by the People's Party and advocated Western-type liberalism, also opposed the reforms that had been made and would be made on the road to democratization in terms of method. Although the grounds for the formation of this opposition were caused by events such as the abolition of the Sultanate and the proclamation of the Republic, the main event that made a sound was the abolition of the Caliphate, because the reforms made in order to realize a secular social order caused reactions in the society that could not break away from the ummah consciousness. . At the end of these developments, the party was shut down with the Takriri Silence Law on the grounds that the party had supported the Sheikh Sait Rebellion, which was characterized as ethnic by some and religious by others. Since the Progressive Republican Party was an initiative that prepared the ground for today's democratic order, it is a subject worth examining in terms of the way it is covered in Social Studies - History of Revolution and Kemalism textbooks. In this study. In this study, the place and importance of the Progressive Republican Party in Turkish political life was emphasized and the way the related subject was handled in Social Studies textbooks was analyzed. As a result of the research, while the 4th, 5th and 6th grade textbooks contain information in the form of democratization, republicanism, forming a political party in the form of creating a basis for the main subject and increasing readiness, as the age and grade level increased, the dimension of the subject in the textbooks deepened and it was seen that every democratic step did not always have positive results and it was tried to develop a perspective in this direction.
Cumhuriyet tarihinin kurulmuş ilk bağımsız muhalefet partisi olan Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası,iyi niyetlenmiş bir oluşumun başarısızlıkla sonuçlandığının bir göstergesi olarak tarihte yerini almıştır. Partinin kurulmasının Türkiye Tarihi açısından önemli olmasının nedeni partiyi kuranların Millî Mücadele’de Mustafa Kemal Paşa ile silah arkadaşlığı yapmış ve yakın arkadaşları olan Kazım Karabekir, Rauf Orbay, Ali Fuat Cebesoy gibi isimlerin olmasıdır. Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası’nın, Halk Fırkası ile inkılapların gerçekleştirme yöntemi, laikliğin uygulanışı ve ekonomi alanlarında görüşleri örtüşmemiştir. Halk Fırkası’nın uyguladığı devletçilik politikalarından uzaklaşıp batı tipi liberalizm savunan Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası, aynı zamanda demokratikleşme yolunda yapılmış ve yapılacak olan inkılaplara da yöntem konusunda muhalefet oluşturmaktadır. Bu muhalefetin oluşma zeminini Saltanatın kaldırılması, Cumhuriyet’in ilanı gibi ses getiren olaylar neden olmuş olsa da asıl ses getiren olay Halifeliğin kaldırılması olmuştur çünkü laik toplum düzeni gerçekleştirmek amacıyla yapılan inkılaplar, ümmet bilincinden kopamamış toplumda tepkilere neden olmuştur. Bu gelişmeler sonunda kimi kesimlerin etnik, kimi kesimlerin dini olarak nitelendirdiği Şeyh Sait İsyanı’na partinin destek verdiği gerekçe gösterilerek Takriri Sükûn Kanunu ile parti kapatılmıştır. Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası, günümüzde oluşmuş demokratik düzenin zeminini hazırlayan bir girişim olması sebebiyle Sosyal Bilgiler- İnkılap Tarihi ve Atatürkçülük ders kitaplarında işleniş şekli olarak incelenmeye değer bir konudur. Bu çalışmada. Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası’nın Türk Siyasal hayatındaki yeri ve önemi üzerinde durulmuş ve ilgili konunun Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında ele alınış şekli incelenmiştir. Araştırmalar sonucunda 4.5.ve 6.Sınıf ders kitaplarında demokratikleşme, cumhuriyetçilik, siyasi parti kurma şeklinde asıl konuya bir zemin oluşturma ve hazır bulunuşluğu arttırma şeklinde bilgiler yeralırken yaş ve sınıf düzeyi arttıkça ders kitaplarında konunun ele alınış boyutu derinleşmiş ve her demokratik adımın her zaman olumlu sonuçlar doğurmadığı görülmüş bu doğrultuda bakış açısı geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır.
