New Approaches to Shape Memory Alloys in Adaptıve Facade Systems

Year 2019, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 169 - 181, 11.02.2020

Abstract

Today; its is confronted with global warming and the reduction of fossil fuel use, and the efficient use of
energy. In this respect, the development of sensitive façade systems, which adapt to environmental conditions,
has gained importance. Dynamic behavior of a building can optimize the energy performance so innovative
concepts such as Adaptive Building Facades will play a very important role in the near future. One of the most
important factors contributing to the performance of adaptive façade systems is the smart and multifunctional
materials. Some smart materials may adapt to environmental conditions with their distinctive behaviors. They
are classified under more than twenty groups, and their utilization in architecture is still under research except
for a few material groups. This research consists of addressing the possible applications of “Shape Memory Alloys
(SMA)” in adaptive façade systems in the group of smart materials changing shape and form. In this study, the
original behavior of SMA, integration to façade system, prototype examples in facade adaptation are focused.

Uyarlanabilir Cephe Sistemlerinde Şekil Hafızalı Alaşımlar ve Uygulamaları

Year 2019, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 169 - 181, 11.02.2020
