Destanlar, eski ve köklü uygarlıkların bağımsızlıklarını kurma mücadeleleri döneminde ortaya çıkan kahramanlık konulu anlatılardır. Destan çağını yaşayan ulusların gösterdiği hayatta kalma gayreti, yaşadıkları çağdaki en önemli özelliğin kahramanlık olmasını zorunlu kılar. Bu noktada destan kahramanlarında cesaret, alplık ve güç aranan temel niteliklerdir. Erkeğin fiziksel gücüne ihtiyaç duyulan bu kahramanlık çağlarında, destanlarda kadınların da destan kahramanı olacak nitelikte kahramanlık ve cesaret gösterdikleri örnekler bulunmaktadır. Bir kadının tarihin eski çağlarından itibaren bir orduyu yönetecek, ulusunu kurtaracak kadar kahramanlık gösterebilmesi toplumsal yaşama dair fikir vermesi bakımından son derece kıymetlidir. Geleneğin ve kültürün aktarımında ortaya çıktıkları çağ itibariyle oldukça önemli bir yeri olan destanlar, kadın kahramanların var oluş mücadelesi açısından da okunmalıdır. Kadınlık ve erkeklik bilgisinin bir destan metninde işlenişi toplumsal kimliklerin oluşması ve sürdürülmesi bakımından ipuçları taşımaktadır. Bu noktada çalışmanın amacı, Türk dünyası destancılık geleneğinin önemli eserleri başta olmak üzere, destanlardaki kadın kahramanların kadın kimliği ile esere nasıl yansıtıldıkları, hangi konumlarda oldukları, merkezi kahraman veya erkek kahramana yardımcı rollerde oluşları bakımından değerlendirilmeleridir.
Epics are narratives about heroism that arose during the period of the struggle of ancient and well-established civilizations to establish their independence. The striving for survival shown by the nations living in the epic era obliges the most important feature in the era in which they live to be heroism. At this point, courage, bravery and strength are the main qualities sought in the heroes of the epic. In these heroic times where the physical strength of a man is needed, there are also examples in epics where women show heroism and courage to become epic heroes. The fact that a woman has been able to show enough heroism to lead an army and save her nation since the ancient times of history is extremely valuable in terms of giving an idea of social life. Epics, which have a very important place in the transfer of tradition and culture as of the era when they appeared, should also be read in terms of the struggle for the existence of female protagonists. The processing of the knowledge of femininity and masculinity in the text of an epic carries clues in terms of the formation and maintenance of social identities. At this point, the aim of the study is to evaluate the female protagonists in epics, especially in important works of the Turkic world epic tradition, in terms of how they are reflected in the work with their female identity, what positions they are in, and whether they are in the central hero or male hero supporting roles.
