One of the diligent writers who flourished during the 19th century Turkish literature was Mehmed Tevfik (d. 1893). The author, who is well-known by his poet tezkirah named Kāfile-i Şu‘arâ largely contributed to the Turkish culture and civilization, national values and traditions with his works. He was also interested in the spiritual journey of Prophet Muhammad which became a distinct genre of literature under the name of ‘Siyar’. In this context, his work named Levâmi‘ü’n-nûr, published in 1890 is an effort in the ‘Siyar’ field that is widely neglected. This work that consists of 124 manuscript pages, grasps attention in the detailed analysis of the Prophet Muhammad’s holy wars, seriyyah and the prominent individuals of the golden age. Levâmi‘ü’n-nûr, bears similarities to Ibn Sa‘d’s (d. 845) Tabakāt in terms of content flow and the chronological progress of the cases. In this respect Levâmi‘ü’n-nûr shows similarities with the Tabakāt of Ibn Sa‘d. This study will introduce Mehmed Tevfik and his work titled Levâmi‘ü’n-nûr following an introductory section regarding the field of Siyar.
