Abstract
The have been different approaches to the concept of space, which in one of the main components of the narrative, in the historical process. Over time, it has been that the space initially accepted as where the events took space in the narrative has different functions. Space has been influential in creating and shaping the culture of communities. In Turkısh literature, it has been enabled the birth of the minstrel coffees and Ashik tradition. In additıon, folk tales needed spaces that would be their living space as a requirement of their performance and continued to develop under the influence of the space derived from. In this study, it was aimed to determine the physical and functional qualities of the concept of space in folk tales classified by Ashik who grew up in Kars and its region, which is one of the centers of the tradition of Ashik and oral storytelling. First of all, the historical process of the approach to the concept of space and the examination of folk tales with respect to space are included. An effect of the Turkish thought structure, it has been seen that the physical environment is included in narratives in the region. However, it has been determined that the space in stories are not only a scene but also have functions such as an indicator of wealth, communication, an element of curse, a source for naming and an income generating element.
