In the Search of a Generic text for Turkish Phonetic Studies: A comparison of the North Wind and The Sun vs The Boy Who Cried the Wolf

Abstract

In this study, the Turkish equivalents of the two English texts that are widely used in phonetics research and their suitability in terms of phonetic experiments were evaluated by considering the phonetic and phonologic features of Turkish. The findings revealed the need for a more comprehensive text due to the specific phonetic and phonological features of Turkish, although the Boy Who Cried Wolf text offers a slightly more comprehensive text alternative than the North Wind and the Sun text. The use and dissemination of a general text covering phonological features in phonetic studies will also increase the comparability of phonetic studies in Turkish. The results underline the need for a general text, or a set of texts, by listing the features that should be among the phonetic information of Turkish in a comprehensive text.

Türkçe Sesbilim Araştırmaları için Kapsamlı Bir Metin Arayışı: "Rüzgar ile Güneş" ve "Yalancı Çoban" Metinlerinin Karşılaştırılması

Year 2023, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 135 - 154, 30.04.2023
