Determination of Some Morphological Characteristics of Different Lolium x Festuca Hybrids

Abstract

In this research, some morphological characteristics of Lolium x Festuca hybrids, Lolium perenne x Festuca pratensis (PRIOR ZAD/84) and Lolium multiflorum x Festuca pratensis (ELMET ZAD/85) were examined. The statistical comparison of the examined characteristics of the different hybrid groups was made using the “t” test. As a result of mitotic chromosome examination, both hybrid groups were determined to be allotetraploid (2n=4x=28). In PRIOR group 58.33 % allotetraploidy and 41.67 % aneuploidy, in ELMET group 26.67 % allotetraploidy and 73.33 % aneuploidy were determined. Results indicated that PRIOR group was superior to ELMET group in terms of number of tillers per plant, fresh and dry hay yields, leaf length and width, crude protein yield, the number of spiklets, plant height, stem thickness, the number of flowers in spike/panicle and seed yield. However, the differences between those groups were found to be significant for only in the number of tillers per plant, dry hay yield and the number of spiklets per plant.

FARKLI LOLIUM X FESTUCA MELEZLERİNDE ANEUPLOİDİ ORANLARININ VE BAZI MORFOLOJİK ÖZELLİKLERİN BELİRLENMESİ

Abstract

Bu araştırmada, Lolium x Festuca melezlerinde Lolium perenne x Festuca pratensis (PRIOR ZAD/84) ve Lolium multiflorum x Festuca pratensis (ELMET ZAD/85)’in bazı morfolojik özellikler incelenmiştir. İncelenen özellikler yönünden farklı melez gruplar “t” testi ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Mitotik kromozom incelemeleri sonucunda her iki melez grubunda allotetraploid (2n=4x=28) olduğu belirlenmiştir. PRIOR grubunda % 58.33 allotetraploid, % 41.67 aneuploid, ELMET grubunda ise % 26.67 allotetraploid, % 73.33 aneuploid tespit edilmiştir. Bitki başına kardeş sayısı, yeşil ve kuru ot verimleri, yaprak boyu ve eni, ham protein verimi, başakçık sayısı, bitki boyu, sap kalınlığı, başaktaki/salkımdaki çiçek sayısı ve tohum verimi yönünden PRIOR grubunun ELMET grubuna göre daha üstün olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ancak gruplar arasındaki farklılıklar sadece kardeş sayısı, kuru ot verimi ve başakçık sayısı bakımından istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur
