Susceptibility Level of Some Pear Cultivars to Pear Psylla, Cacopsylla pyri (L.) (Hom., Psyllidae)

Year 2004, Volume: 17 Issue: 2, 121 - 125, 01.12.2004

Abstract

In this study, five pear (Pyrus communis L.) cultivars, ‘Ankara’, ‘Deveci’, ‘Margaret’, ‘Santa Maria’ and ‘Williams’, which are the most common pear varieties in Korkuteli (Antalya, South Anatolia) district, were evaluated under laboratory conditions for resistance to pear psylla, Cacopsylla pyri (L.) (Homoptera: Psyllidae). Resistance was evaluated by measuring nymphal feeding (honeydew production), antibiosis (nymphal mortality), ovipositional preference (number of eggs per female) and longevity of different life stages of the pest on the cultivars. Of the five cultivars tested, only one (Margaret) was found to be moderately resistant to pear psylla. While two local cultivars, ‘Ankara’ and ‘Deveci’, were very susceptible, the remaining ones (Santa Maria and Williams) may be classified as susceptible. Among the tested traditional pear cultivars, only ‘Margaret’ could be used as a source of pear psylla resistance in breeding programs and also grown in organic orchards that are free from pesticides.

Bazı Armut Çeşitlerinin Armut Psyllidi, Cacopsylla pyri (L.) (Hom., Psyllidae)’ye Duyarlılık Düzeyleri

Year 2004, Volume: 17 Issue: 2, 121 - 125, 01.12.2004
