Abstract

Concerning intensive training needs of extensionist, there was a strong consensus, especially at the administrative and field level, at the World Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development organized by FAO in Rome in 1979 (FAO, 1979). After this conference more attention has been given training needs of extensionists in many developing countries, including Turkey, with technical and financial support of FAO and World Bank. For instance, training and visit extension system has been accepted the way in which regular training component of the approach would be the best solution to tackle the training problems of extensionists. In this paper, the concept of training, training needs, types and subject matters of training and constraints to training are reviewed and training efforts for extensionists are discussed.
