Abstract
The diagnosis of periodontal diseases in dentistry is based primarily on conventional two-dimensional imaging methods. However, conventional imaging methods have disadvantages such as geometric distortion and anatomic masking resulting from the reduction of three-dimensional structures to two dimensions. These disadvantages have been eliminated by cone beam computed tomography, which are frequently used in current dentistry, allowing to obtain three-dimensional images. Cone beam computed tomography is a valuable imaging technique, particularly for the detection of intrabony defects, furcation involvement and buccal / lingual bone destruction. This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of cone beam computed tomography compared to conventional methods in periodontal diseases.

Abstract
Diş hekimliğinde periodontal hastalıkların teşhisi öncelikle konvansiyonel iki boyutlu görüntüleme yöntemlerine dayanır. Ancak konvansiyonel görüntüleme yöntemlerinin üç boyutlu yapıları iki boyuta indirgenmesinden kaynaklanan geometrik distorsiyon ve anatomik maskeleme gibi dezavantajları mevcuttur. Günümüz diş hekimliğinde sıklıkla kullanılan konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi ile üç boyutlu görüntü elde edilmesine imkan sağlayarak bu tür dezavantajlar elimine edilmiştir. KIBT özellikle kemik içi defeklerin, furkasyon tutulumunun ve bukkal / lingual kemik yıkımının teşhisi için değerli bir görüntüleme tekniğidir. Bu makalede periodontal hastalıklarda konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografinin konvansiyonel yöntemlere göre avantajları ve dezavantajları tartışılmıştır.
