Localized pigmented villonodular synovitis of the knee: report of four cases

Abstract

Localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a rare idiopathic disease, usually associated with symptoms mimicking those of other intraarticular pathologies. The disease usually affects a single joint, the knee joint being the most common joint. Total resection is the preferred treatment. Recurrence is very rare. In this study we present four cases of localized PVNS (1 male, 3 females, at the ages of 36, 19, 59, and 26 years) who were treated with arthroscopic intervention. Clinical results were favorable during follow-up and no early recurrences were encountered.

Abstract

Lokalize pigmente villonodüler sinovit (lokalize PVNS) nadir görülen, çeşitli diz içi patolojilerle karışabilen semptomlar oluşturan idiyopatik bir lezyondur. Hastalık genellikle tek eklemi tutar ve en sık diz ekleminde gözlenir. Tedavi lezyonun total rezeksiyonudur. Nüks nadirdir. Bu çalışmada değişik semptomlarla başvuran ve artroskopik olarak tedavi edilen lokalize PVNS’li dört olgu (1 erkek, 3 kadın; yaşları 36, 19, 59 ve 26) sunduk. Olguların takibinde klinik sonuçlar iyi bulundu ve hiçbirinde erken nüks saptanmadı.
