The Grice procedure on 61 paralytic feet due to poliomyelitis in 47 children seen at Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine Orthopedic Clinic between 1961 and 1967 is discussed. Twenty-one out of the 47 children, giving a total of 28 feet, were followed up for a period of 48.7 months. Of these the results in 18 cases were excellent, four were good, three were fair and three were unsuccessful. It was found that this operation could be performed safely when necessary on children over three years of age. The results were not related to the are of the child at the lime of the operation, or to that at which he had experienced the acille phase of poliomyelitis. However, they were affected by muscular unbalanee caused by the disease, and in cases where talipes equinus had not been corrected prior to surgery. It was also shown in our two patients with genu recurvatum deformities that these could be corrected if the triceps surae were strong but the quadriceps muscles were weak by subtalar extra articular artchrodesis.
